Our family took our family vacation to GSMNP this October, and it was our first family vacation all together. Your staff gave us some great tips on trails to take our 3 year old daughter on for her first hike. The trails were perfect and a great choice. Thank you for making our daughter's first trails the perfect fit (she has definitely caught the hiking bug). Cant wait to see you all again soon! Please give Zuma a hug for our daughter!

Just want to say thank you for the service you provided to my wife. She called and talk to an employee and ask for certain trail patches. Without hesitation, you not only helped her, but ordered additional ones for her. She was so thrilled and couldn't stop praising you. It really meant a lot to her. Thanks for the help

Been on semi-annual backpacking trips in the Smokies for the last six years and we always come to the Happy Hiker to hang out and spend some bucks. We'll be there the week of November 8. Plan on using Smokemont as a base camp and fishing Bradley Fork and the Oconaluftee. Always look forward to the trip. Last February we did Middle Prong Trail, Lynn Camp Prong, Greenrier Ridge Trail , the AT to Bote Mtn Trail and West Prong back down to Tremont. Thunderhead Mtn and Rocky Top were the highlights with waist high snow drifts on the way to Spence Field Shelter. Mighty cold but worth every mile of the trip.

My wife and I have been coming to the Smokey Mountains together for the last 20yrs each time I try to come to the happy hiker. Now we have a daughter who is 4yoa who loves coming to the Smokies as much as we do. She made her 19th trip (camping) the first week of August 2009. Each time we take her on a different trail and each time we come to the happy hiker to get her trail patch. Just wanted to take a few minutes to tell you how much we have enjoyed your store. (also my little girl loves your dog). Thanks.

I have visited Gatlinburg many times; on our last trip was the first time I came into your store. My retirement plans have always been to buy a small house two blocks off Main Street and work at one of the local stores. I have now found the store I will be working at…”The Happy Hiker”. Truly enjoyed your store keeps me a job open for my retirement. Ronnie moses@hal-pc.org

Visited the store to get socks during our recent trip to GSMNP. Great store! This was my first trip to GSMNP since '89. My daughter's 1st ever. It was more beautiful than I remember. Incredible hike to Ramsey Cascades. Also Grotto Falls and others. Planning to come back to camp soon - sure we'll stop in.

I've been a hiker/camper in the Smokys for 20 years and love the park. In the middle of June our group from Alabama set up a base camp at Elkmont Campground, had my son drop 4 of us off at Clingman's Dome parking lot and we took the AT to the Goshen Prong Trail, hiked down the mountain, spent the night at campsite # 23, and continued on the next day taking Little River Trail back into Elkmont. It was a beautiful hike and something I'd wanted to do for years. We stopped at the Happy Hiker and picked us some supplies, a couple of tee shirts and really liked the store. We'll be back.

I have been a GSMNP hiker/camper since the early 80's. Latest trip in May 2009 with my youngest son Preston, 28, his girlfriend Marisol. Also Jimmy from Chicagoland, Prestons' friend since elementary school. We are all from Florida and go to the Smokies to decompress and recharge for another year in our lives. Needless to say pit stops at the HH are mandatory. Equipment, supplies and a truly helpful staff are the icing on the cake each trip, every year. Awesome coffee too. "Hike Safe Hike Often"

We live in Louisiana and made our first trip to the Smokies in April 2009. I love the outdoors and it was mandatory that we find a knowledgeable guide for a real hiking experience in the Smokies. I called the Happy Hiker and Vesna (one of the proprietors) hooked us up with a guide named Dana. We opted for a less traveled trail that had a showcase of 12 waterfalls over the one mile hike. We did not encounter another human being on the trail, which made it that much more secluded. Dana was very knowledgeable about the botanical treasures scattered along the trail, the local history, and the wildlife. He set a pace that my eight year old daughter and wife could easily follow, pausing at interesting sites along the way. Dana, thank you for the HIGHLIGHT of our Smokey Mountain visit. You are a valuable asset to the organization. If any of you Happy Hikers want an equally memorable excursion into largest tract of hardwood bottomland in the U.S. (Teddy Roosevelt wrote about his expeditions there) then contact me. Warning: if you don't like alligators, snakes, turkeys, deer, and bears, then stay in the mountains! Our sincerest gratitude for an outstanding, inspiring, and memorable quest. Life IS about making memories!! Peace! Pat-N Kat Regan

My friend and I went on a backpacking trip here a few years ago and we stopped in at the Happy Hiker. I was in the parking lot making sure our stove would work before we left and we just couldn’t get it to work. Bret came out and fixed it and gave us the parts free of charge. We were so impressed with his generosity, kindness, and knowledge. Needless to say the trip was amazing- and I’m pretty sure the tone would have been different without a stove. We actually spent a lot of time at the Happy Hiker- lots of good people who welcome a few stray smelly hikers haha. Thanks so much for your help- at the time, grateful would have been an understatement.
