ABOUT US
OUR HISTORY
The Happy Hiker was founded by Tom Brosch in 1985 and soon became a Smoky Mountains destination outfitter for serious hikers and beginners alike... It was acquired by me, Barrett H. Ogle in 2001 a 5th generation native with deep roots to the community and a love for the park.... I grew up in Gatlinburg, went to school at Pi Beta Phi Elementery and later Gatlinburg Pittman High.....My parents were born in the park at the time of the exodus....My mother was born in Elkmont and my father in Roaring Fork....Needless to say this is a very special place for me and a business where I can promote hiking and Great Smoky Mountains national Park in a positive manner.....I moved away from Gatlinburg to attend college and to live out west and after having a successful career as a freelance cinematographer I came home to be with my family and fell into The Happy Hiker.... The rest is history :)......The Happy Hiker has from the start been a business based on integrity, honesty, and fair business acumen...We believe in treating our customers as we would prefer to be treated and expect nothing less in return , We strive to be UNLIKE all other outdoor outfitters and hope your experience with our store enhances your visit to The Great Smoky Mountains National Park.... And as always trail advice and trip suggestions are always available! as well as a great gear selection.... Oh and Blue Smoke Coffee is probably brewing.
